Concept
In a world where our bearings seem to waver and uncertainties loom, resistance emerges in all spheres of life. It is a living force, a profoundly human impulse that manifests itself in our societies through a multitude of forms.
The video composition invites us on a journey to the heart of the act of resistance through four main directions:
When life pushes us to become introverted, with the resulting risk of becoming estranged from ourselves, the power to act provides a joy that allows us to resist what constrains us by experiencing the territories within us. Resistance is often embodied in the subtlety of gestures, in the whisper of unspoken words, in the defiant gaze. Video works explore discreet forms of dissent and testify to the strength of individuals to preserve their integrity or their memory through daily acts of resistance.
The body, the territory of being, can also become a battlefield. Video works question how human beings use the body as a tool of resistance. Whether damaged, reclaimed, or sublimated, the body becomes a symbol of the struggle against oppressive norms and powers.
Art records the tremors of the world. Videos capture fragments of a constantly changing reality, where social, political, and environmental struggles intersect and interact.
Paradoxically, resistance may not seem like the best way forward. Some works favor meditation, poetry, and beauty as weapons of subversion.
Silent Resistance
The verb "to resist" must always be conjugated in the present tense.
Lucie Aubrac (1912-2007) - A member of the French Resistance during World War II, known for her courage and daring actions, particularly in several rescue operations for resistance fighters imprisoned by the Germans.
In a world where grand narratives of resistance often dominate the imagination, these video works explore the more discreet, but equally essential, territories of passive resistance. They invite us to delve into the interstices of everyday life, where micro-revolts, acts of gentle disobedience, and survival strategies are brewing. Everyday life serves as a privileged medium for the expression of these silent forms of resistance. The artists draw on banal objects, repetitive gestures, intimate rituals, and ordinary spaces to reveal the hidden poetry of the smallest revolt. They transform constraints into opportunities, limits into spaces of freedom, and silences into stifled cries.
RESISTANCE - Maria Papacharambous (Cyprus - 1)
STOP THE CLOCK - Nicoletta Stalder (Switzerland - 9)
N - Yue Liang (China - 21)
BREAK - Brigida Baltar (Brazil - 25)
The artists are also interested in innocuous gestures that, taken together, constitute a form of resistance in themselves. They capture the art of evasion, the ability to navigate oppressive systems without completely submitting to them. They explore circumvention strategies, subtle ruses, eloquent silences, and forms of withdrawal that allow one to preserve one's integrity in a hostile environment.
THE CHAIR - Anna Malagrida (Spain - 10)
RESISTS - Yun Aiyoung (Korea - 11)
A SHEEP IN THE BATH-TUB - Fatima Mazmouz (Morocco - 20)
Other artists preserve and transmit stories to challenge oblivion, to reactivate memories, and to question silences. Their videos explore the twists and turns of memory, a territory where they bear witness to past and present resistance. They are acts of resistance in themselves, attempts to preserve what threatens to disappear or to give a voice to those history has forgotten, reminding us that the past is constantly reinterpreted and reappropriated. Every act of remembrance is an act of resistance against erasure.
CREATION - Rokhshad Nourdeh (Iran - 2)
BLOOD OF ME - Esperanza Collado (Ireland - 13)
RESISTANCE - Petra Bauer (Sweden - 18)
Bodies in Resistance
Our bodies bear the scars of our battles, but also the strength of our survival.
Maya Angelou (1928-2014) - Writer, actress, and activist
The human body remains our primary anchor, our terrain of struggle and experimentation, and our ultimate frontier. Among the many facets of resistance, the works question the notion of limits: how far can the body endure, transform, and rebuild itself? How does it resist fragmentation, dislocation, and loss of control? The videos celebrate individual and collective forms of resilience and invite us to rethink our relationship with the body, to consider it as a territory of struggle and transformation, a place of resistance and freedom. Fragments of a World in Struggle
The only thing I was tired of was giving in.
Rosa Parks (1913-2005) - Pioneer of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States
Active resistance is not limited to frontal opposition. It manifests itself through subtle gestures, symbolic reappropriations, reappropriations of public space, and alternative narratives. The video works explore these different facets, revealing the complexity and diversity of forms of resistance. They invite us to rethink our relationship with the world, to question established norms, and to imagine new forms of engagement. They remind us that resistance is an act of creation, a vital force that allows us to reinvent our present and build our future.

The Art of Not Resisting
Life is a river; you have to dive in and let yourself go.
George Sand (Aurore Dupin 1804-1876) - Novelist, playwright, literary critic, and journalist
Resistance, in its primary meaning, is an act of refusal, one force opposing another. Conversely, this notion can also be explored from the perspective of acceptance and letting go. Far from images of revolt and confrontation, it can manifest itself in serene acceptance or voluntary adaptation. The videos invite us to accept the inevitable as a form of fluidity, an ability to navigate the currents of life without resisting them. It's about resisting resistance.
