"Human beings are the only ones who, on the day of their birth, are thrown naked onto the bare earth, immediately given over to wailing and tears. No other animal is condemned to tears from the first day of their life. [...] Animals are guided by their instincts; some run fast, others fly impetuously, others swim: humans alone know nothing without learning it, neither to speak, nor to walk, nor to feed themselves; In a word, he spontaneously knows only how to cry. […] No one has a more fragile life.”
Pliny the Elder, Natural History
If the question of fragility is central to both the fields of philosophy and creation, it is because it is a fundamental dimension of our humanity, and as such, it directly influences the meaning of our experience of the world and our relationships with others: birth, death, love, loss, joy, pain... shape us and make us vulnerable.
Constantly evoking the fragility of human beings, and seeing them succeed in reinventing themselves in unprecedented situations, is one of the great paradoxes of human societies. The tragedies of the last century seem to have pacified our morals. A large part of humanity now prefers to praise weakness, common vulnerability, and the fragility of being over traditional strength.
The thirty-two works included in the video composition invite us to explore the cracks and faults that run through our lives. They remind us that the beauty and depth of human experience often reside in what is ephemeral, vulnerable, and uncertain.
By exploring the theme of Fragility, the artists map its territories: from the flow of time to the complexity of our identities, through objects and memories, as well as the strength and precariousness of the bonds that unite us.
Shards of Being
The child is not a vessel to be filled, but a spring to be allowed to flow forth.
Maria Montessori (1870-1952) - Scientist, Physician, and Educator
The notion of existence, marked by finitude and uncertainty, emerges as the breeding ground from which all our fragilities grow. By highlighting our fundamental vulnerability, the works invite us to embrace freedom and responsibility as conscious beings.

Me, Among Others
I feel my fragility and that of every human being, and this binds me even more to them.
Etty Hillesum (1914-1943) - Writer, victim of the Nazis,
Individuals, caught in the complex web of our societies, are confronted with multiple fragilities: social, economic, psychological, individual or collective, visible or invisible. Each person is a microcosm of contradictions, desires, and fears. We are subjects subject to interdependencies, "co-fragile" and "co-isolated" (Peter Sloterdijk). Our interpersonal relationships, the bonds we forge with our loved ones, our environment, are all tenuous threads that can break under the effect of multiple tensions or, on the contrary, reveal their resilience and their capacity to connect.

In The Interstices of Our Identities
To the extent that humankind is a plurality of humankind, individual identity is always an unresolved question.
Hannah Arendt (1906-1975) - Philosopher, Political Theorist
Fragility is also revealed in the interstices of our identities. It is the crack through which doubts and existential questions infiltrate. By confronting us with the complexity of what it means to be ourselves, artists remind us that our identities can be shaky constructs, shaped by history, culture, social relationships, and individual experiences.

Shards of Intimacy
In all our efforts to find joy, happiness, and peace, what we most often lack is the art of living with pain.
Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen) (1885-1962) - Writer
In a world that values performance, resilience, and invincibility, fragility often appears as a weakness, a state to be hidden. When an external event reveals a fault line within us, we are like a glass that shatters when it receives a blow to the crack. With the technique of Kintsugi, the Japanese magnify a broken bowl by integrating a gold thread inside the crack. Thus, nothing is hidden or forgotten. By making their intimacy the material of their work, artists offer us their testimony on the wounds that can mark our journey.
